Bokeh and Sparkle

Posted on Jun 23, 2013 by

This is a photo I took in 2011 at an antique store in Colorado.  I was experimenting with depth of field.  This was part of my original Project 365.  This time around, I processed it differently.

First I processed it in Lightroom 4 giving it more blacks, contrast and brightening up the exposure.  Then, I took it into 2 Topaz plug-ins.  The first one was Lens Effects where I played around with the depth of field using some selective bokeh presets putting more blur in the background and bringing out the highlights.  Then, in Topaz Star Effects, I played with the natural shine from the lights in the shop that was in the jewels making them really pop!  You can see the “stars” in the white jewels in the middle.  I hope you like this!  Here is the original so you can compare!

If you want to learn even more about bokeh, here is a great article from Light Stalking:  6 Tips for Mastering Bokeh

Please let me know what you think of the processing and the use of the Topaz plug-ins!  Are you using Topaz plug-ins?  And if so, which are your favorites?
