Lovely Architecture and Light

I was at Johns Hopkins Hospital on Thursday this week visiting a friend.  While waiting, I took a walk around to see some of the lovely architecture and found some fun shadows and light.  I took these photos with my iPhone and did some basic edits in my Lightroom mobile app.  Enjoy! If any of you have visited this hospital in downtown Baltimore, please respond in the comments and even share any photos you may have.  I hear its quite the iconic building.  I would love to hear of its...

Floral Friday_24 March 2017

I was on one of my “adventures” just driving around Washington county here in Maryland last Monday and I found several flowers showing proof that Spring has sprung!!  I just love the season of Spring when the earth comes alive once again. This photo was taken using my iPhone and edited in my Lightroom mobile app on my iPad.  I just did some basic editing adjusting the exposure, contrast, blacks, clarity and vibrance.  I see that no matter how I adjusted, my flower was a bit out of focus.  I will have to be careful of that...

Floral Friday Resurrected: 3 March 2017

Greetings fellow photography lovers! It is about time that I return to my photo blog and get to the business of sharing beauty, inspiration, and instruction.  In the past, friends have really enjoyed my “Foral Friday” posts so here is my first one! I hope you will join me as I begin to post regularly again and even return to a Photo-of-the-day. I am returning to a method of turning photos into beautiful “orbs” that I had posted several years ago!  This is such a beautiful yet simple way to “jazz” up a...

Floral Friday_1-10-2014

Greetings everyone!  I am so glad to be back with Floral Friday again.  Well…I guess this week it is Floral Saturday since it is 12:42 Saturday morning! I thought I would post something a little different this time…don’t get too close or you might get poked!  While Kris and I were visiting my Mom in Grand Junction, CO last summer, we took a little side trip to Moab, Utah.  On the way there we passed some awesome scenery which I hope to share in a gallery soon.  I found this little lovely along the road on one of the many...

Floral Friday_7-5-13

Happy Floral Friday to you…one day late!  I know you have seen this lily before in several forms but not in this form!  I just learned a terrific technique for adding a reflection to an object and this lily was the first thing I tried it on.  Here is the original: The basic technique, which I did in Photoshop CC, involves extracting the lily, the biggest one in the upper right corner of the photo.  Putting it on a black layer, duplicating the layer and transforming it by flipping vertically.  Then I added a gradient in a mask to the...

Typography Class_Lesson 2

For our second lesson in Typography, we learned about the 12 different classifications of typefaces and how type can be images!  We then had to choose some words and “depict” them with our choice of font, effects, and color.  The final version had to show what the word was!  This was so fun for me.  The above 3 images are what I created.  I hope you like them! Do you think I chose the right fonts to depict the words?  Let me know in the comments below!...

Annika at Her Best…

When Kris and I were at the ARC (Association Retreat Center) for our AFLC Annual Conference, we took one evening to meet with Annika, our daughter.  We ate together at a very cool restaurant right on the St. Croix River.  We ate on the deck and had a lovely supper.  Then we just walked by the river, up some very steep steps and just had fun together.  Annika gave her dad a tribute she had written for him for Father’s Day, which made him get very teary!  While I was photographing typography all around us, Annika suddenly stuck her head...

Bokeh and Sparkle

This is a photo I took in 2011 at an antique store in Colorado.  I was experimenting with depth of field.  This was part of my original Project 365.  This time around, I processed it differently. First I processed it in Lightroom 4 giving it more blacks, contrast and brightening up the exposure.  Then, I took it into 2 Topaz plug-ins.  The first one was Lens Effects where I played around with the depth of field using some selective bokeh presets putting more blur in the background and bringing out the highlights.  Then, in Topaz Star Effects,...

Floral Friday_6-21-13

Here is a bit of a change for Floral Friday…there are some tiny flowers here but mostly it is the botanical hanging from the tree that is the focal point here.  I took this photo at Butterfly World in West Palm Beach, FL last year.  My favorite part of this photo is the play of the light on the plant! I processed this photo right after I took it last year so I am not remembering my workflow on this now.  I believe I processed it in Photoshop.  I can tell you I adjusted the contrast, the blacks, and the White Balance primarily as you...

More Information on using Kuler Color Tool Online: Part 2

Back again with more color information and tools for you!  If you missed the first article in this series you can read it here:  Confused About Color? Last time, we talked about using the color tool called Kuler.  You can find their website here.  We talked about the first of 3 links across the top menu on the site, the “Create” tab. Today we will talk about the “Explore” tab.  Before I start that, I also said I would talk more about the RGB # and the Hex code numbers that appear below the color wheel in the...
